Daffodil Garden Dedication, Roper Park, Jasper
Marty Pomeranz, retired JCBR Religious Leader, was honored to be a speaker in a closed program held Sunday, November 22. The dedication was for part of the Rotary Peace Park garden to be a living memorial for the 1.5 million children murdered in the holocaust. Jasper‘s master gardeners had planted over 1000 daffodil plants earlier, and attendees planted the last few bulbs. The shape of the daffodil flower bears likeness to the Star of David the Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust, and yellow has become the color of remembrance.
Our friend, Mike Weinroth, Local Ambassador for Yisrael Chai, has been the guiding force for the daffodil garden dedications in our area – for example, in Blue Ridge in 2013 followed by Blairsville and Hamilton Park in Hiawassee. The Daffodil Project is building a worldwide living Holocaust Memorial as well as showing support for children suffering in humanitarian crisis today.
Officials participating were the Mayor, Rotary officers and master gardeners. The Jasper Rotary Club hopes to have a rededication ceremony and celebration open to the public in 2021.
